“Riflessi” è un progetto nato per gioco prendendo spunto da un contest fotografico dal titolo “Falso d’autore”.
Ad ogni partecipante è stato assegnato un fotografo famoso con il compito di riprodurre una foto a scelta tra quelle create dall’autore. Mi è capitato in sorte Lee Friedlander, fotografo americano del 1934, tutt’ora vivente, e tra le sue opere mi hanno ispirato particolarmente le immagini del suo lavoro intitolato “Mannequin”, una raccolta di foto scattate alle vetrine dei negozi di moda, passeggiando tra le vie di New York, Los Angeles e San Francisco. Mi ha colpito e ho cercato di produrre fotografie simili per le vie principali di Milano, e più fotografavo e più scoprivo che nei riflessi delle vetrine esistevano diversi livelli di soggetti e di situazioni: il manichino rivolto verso i passanti in primo piano, l’attività sui marciapiedi e sulla strada, le facciate dei palazzi sullo sfondo, in alcuni casi le persone all’interno del negozio e, qualche volta, anche me stesso mentre fotografavo. Con un gioco di parole, mi ha fatto “riflettere” parecchio sul significato di quello che veramente riusciamo a percepire di tutto quello che ci circonda e inconsapevolmente succede nello stesso istante. Noi ne cogliamo solo una minima parte, non abbiamo la capacità di vedere tutto quello che un’immagine riesce a racchiudere se viene congelata nell’attimo in qui accade. Ed è stato proprio questo “attimo in cui accade” a darmi l’entusiasmo necessario per realizzare questo progetto, a farmi comprendere di essere parte di un “tutto” che difficilmente riuscirò a cogliere nella sua molteplicità e complessità, ma non per questo diventa meno coinvolgente. Qui sono state selezionate solo 50 fotografie delle circa 400 realizzate nel mese di marzo 2022, ed il bianco e nero è voluto proprio per accostarmi il più possibile allo stile di Friedlander. Esiste comunque una raccolta di 24 immagini trattate a colori, rielaborate e stampate come acquerelli digitali che riprende lo stile, a me caro, di un altro mio lavoro: "i tram di Milano 2.0". |
“Reflections” is a project born for fun, inspired by a photography contest called “Author’s fake”.
Each participant was assigned a famous photographer with the task of reproducing a photo of their choice among those created by the author. I was lucky enough to choose Lee Friedlander, an American photographer born in 1934, still alive, and among his works I was particularly inspired by the images of his work entitled “Mannequin”, a collection of photos taken in the windows of fashion shops, walking through the streets of New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco. It struck me and I tried to produce similar photographs in the main streets of Milan, and the more I photographed, the more I discovered that in the reflections of the windows there were different levels of subjects and situations: the mannequin facing passers-by in the foreground, the activity on the sidewalks and on the street, the facades of the buildings in the background, in some cases the people inside the shop and, sometimes, even myself while I was photographing. This made me “think” a lot about the meaning of what we can really perceive of everything that surrounds us and unconsciously happens at the same time. We only grasp a small part of it, we do not have the ability to see everything that an image can contain if it is frozen in the moment in which it happens. And it was precisely this “moment in which it happens” that gave me the enthusiasm necessary to realize this project, to make me understand that I am part of a “whole” that I will hardly be able to grasp in its multiplicity and complexity, but it does not become less engaging for this. Only 50 photographs of the approximately 400 taken in March 2022 have been selected here, and the black and white format was chosen to bring me as close as possible to Friedlander's style. There is also a collection of 24 images treated in color, reworked and printed as digital watercolors, which echoes the style, so dear to me, of another work of mine: "i Tram di Milan 2.0." |
